Sara El-Madani is a Research Affiliate at ISDC and a PhD researcher and lecturer at the department of International and Institutional Economics at the European University Flensburg, in Germany. She studied economics and political science at Kiel University and Universidad de Zaragoza. Her research focuses on the socioeconomic consequences of the Israeli occupation in Palestine. Specifically, she analyzes how certain drivers of inequality affect labor market opportunities of Palestinian refugees, as well as how different social protection programs despite of exogenous shocks reduce socioeconomic inequalities and enable opportunities at the (Palestinian) local labor market. Prior to her current position, she worked as a research assistant at the Kiel Institute for the World Economy, and interned at UNRWA in Jordan and the German development cooperation (GIZ) in Egypt.
