More than 10 years after the publication of the State of Food and Agriculture (SOFA): Women in agriculture report, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) has published a new report: The status of women in agrifood systems.
The 2010/2011 SOFA report went into detail describing the costs of gender inequalities for both women and agriculture. The gender gaps in agricultural assets, inputs, and services were shown to have significant impacts on the economy and society.
Now, the new report follows up to show how gender equality and women’s empowerment are necessary parts of transitioning towards sustainable and resilient agrifood systems; and vice-versa.
We’re proud to say that ISDC’s Tilman Brück, Wolfgang Stojetz, and Piero Ronzani contributed to this extensive and important collection of research with a background paper.
