While the myriad of consequences of climate change are much-studied and discussed, little is known about how they interact with the specific experiences of refugees.
To better understand the overlapping dynamics between climate change and displacement, ISDC has begun working on a new project with UNHCR Jordan. The goal is to develop a climate change vulnerability index for refugees based on household survey data. This index will plug into UNHCR’s existing Vulnerability Assessment Framework (VAF) and will provide new insights to the lived experiences of the refugee population.
Through this cooperation, ISDC and UNHCR Jordan hope to close some key gaps in understanding the different effects of climate change on refugees in Jordan, thus strengthening the VAF as an analytical tool.
We are looking forward to our joint work!
