Project Background
Polarization is an emerging concern in Kyrgyzstan and may have important implications for the country’s social cohesion and long-term stability. Although serious incidents remain uncommon, there have been cases where societal tensions have manifested in concerning ways, both domestically and abroad. Divisions across communities are becoming more noticeable and may gradually erode trust and unity. However, there is still limited understanding of the extent, causes, and impacts of polarization at the individual level, as well as how these dynamics may affect the broader social landscape.
Project Objectives
This project aims to generate and share new, micro-level insights into the patterns, drivers, and consequences of polarization in Kyrgyzstan. Drawing on these findings, we will identify practical entry points for policy and programming that promote dialogue, strengthen social cohesion, and reduce the risk of deepening divides across communities.
