To join our growing, international team, we are looking for a

Communications Officer (f/m/d)

(full-time – 40 hours per week)

to support our ‘Impact Assessment for the Building Local Resilience in Syria (BLRS)’ project in the Welfare Research Program — starting April 2025. The research project focuses on understanding the short-term impact and effectiveness of a large-scale programme, which aims to improve welfare, food security, and women’s health and empowerment  in Syria. The Communications Officer will sit at the intersection between the project team and ISDC’s communications work, thereby ensuring that the research insights reach our target audiences and deliver a policy impact.

Your responsibilities:

  • Coordinate between the BLRS project team and the ISDC Communications Manager to convey project updates and results to different audiences in policy, practice, and academia;
  • Communicate our research findings by writing regular communications products, including project reports, policy briefs, and contributions for ISDC’s online communications channels;
  • Work closely with our donor, the UK FCDO, and our partners in the BLRS project, repackaging key project results into streamlined presentations and reports;
  • Plan project-related events (both online and in-person) that present the findings of the research project; and
  • Operationally support the planning and execution of the research project, including regular meetings with project partners and donors.

We think you’d be a match if you:

  • Have a strong degree (Master’s is desirable, but not essential) in public policy, communications, journalism, economics, political science, regional studies, or similar;
  • Have demonstrated experience in translating research to policy-relevant products (e.g. blogs, policy briefs, and website/social media content);
  • Have successfully supported organizing in-person and online events (preferably in an academic and/or policy context);
  • Have a demonstrated topical interest in studying conflict, development, and/or humanitarian policy, and/or Middle East regional expertise;
  • Have some familiarity with quantitative research methods, especially designing and interpreting graphs and figures;
  • Have some experience with content management systems and graphic design (desirable but not essential);
  • Have excellent communication and writing skills in English; and
  • Speak and write Arabic (desirable but not essential).

What you’ll gain by working with us:

  • The opportunity to work on a topic of high relevance to policy and practice;
  • The possibility to be part of (and learn from) a diverse, international team of excellent researchers with ambitious communications goals;
  • A two-year contract with remuneration at a monthly gross salary of 3,500 EUR and the possibility of extension;
  • Flexible hybrid work model; including the opportunity to work remotely from abroad for 3 weeks per year;
  • 30 days of annual leave and additional days off on 24 and 31 of December (based on a 5-day-week); and
  • A modern and collaborative work place near S+U Wedding.
