This 2026 Doctoral Workshop of the Development Economics Committee of the German Economic Association will be organized by Prof. Tilman Brück (HUB, IGZ & ISDC) and Dr. Cara Ebert (RWI).
The workshop will take place on 7 and 8 December 2026 in Berlin at the office of ISDC.
The aims of the Doctoral Workshop 2026 are:
- to enable advanced doctoral students in development economics at German-language universities to improve their ongoing research, to advise on the preparation of a refereed journal article,
- to practice academic discussion with like-minded students from other universities, and
- to establish an informal network of young scholars in the field.
The two-day seminar will be conducted entirely in English.
Preconditions for participation are a registration as a doctoral student at a university in a German-speaking country in the field of development economics and one draft research paper at the time of application. Selection will be restricted to a maximum of ten doctoral students. Preference will be given to students whose supervisor is committed to attend the workshop. Participants are responsible to organise and fund their own accommodation and travel arrangements. A conference participation fee of EUR 50 will be charged.
Please send extended abstracts (2–3 pages) or full papers and a short CV (as pdf files) by October 25, 2026 to Lina Habbachi at habbachi@isdc.org. If possible, please also submit a letter of support from the supervisor (as a pdf file), stating if the supervisor is able and willing to attend the workshop as well. Decisions will be communicated by October 31, 2026.
