Andrej Smirnov

Andrej Smirnov is a PhD Candidate at the Nova School of Business and Economics and a PhD Affiliate at NOVAFRICA. His research lies at the intersection of environmental and development economics, with a focus on the micro-level mechanisms shaping responses to climate shocks, including intra-household dynamics, gender roles, and labor-market outcomes. More broadly, he is also interested in political economy, conflict, and migration.

Andrej holds a master’s degree in economics from Humboldt University of Berlin. Prior to starting his PhD, he interned at the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and worked as a research assistant at ISDC, where he contributed to the Behavior Research Programme, and at the German Centre for Integration and Migration Research (DeZIM).
